The main Doosan machine tools plant is headquartered at Changwon, near Busan on the south east coast of South Korea around 200 miles from Seoul.
The new Puma lathe/turning centre range is manufactured at the main Changwon plant, as are all horizontal machines, all large lathes, 5-axis machining centres and B-axis lathes.
Other Doosan machine tools are made in numerous satellite factories with one of these dedicated to vertical turning lathes, another to horizontal boring machines, a third to the Lynx range of lathes, and finally, a separate factory for standard vertical machining centres.
Taken together, the Changwon facility and its satellites have capacity to make 1200 machines per month.
Supporting Doosan's manufacturing and sales growth and success is a recently opened Research & Development facility at Changwon, that employs over 300 engineers who are responsible for new product development, and numerous modifications and upgrades for existing machine tool models.
A case in point regarding the scope and scale of Doosan's R&D capabilities is evidenced by the launch (Spring 2010) of the new range of Puma lathes. With over 36 machines in total - the new Puma 2100, Puma 2600 and Puma 3100 ranges were developed over a 3 year period...and enabled Doosan to bring all 36 models to market at the same time.
