Reach for the sky!

Mills CNC’s INNOVATION DAY takes place at our Campus facility in Leamington Spa on Thursday 8th October.

The event with its focus on one-hit machining and advanced multi-tasking machine tools, is aimed fairly and squarely at UK and Irish component manufacturers looking for ways to increase their productivity, improve their process efficiencies and maintain their competitive edge.

The event is also being used to formally introduce a HELLER HF 5500 FLEX horizontal simultaneous 5-axis mill-turn machine, replete with a challenging aerospace blisk machining demonstration and in-depth technical presentations, to event attendees.

This Heller machine was a late addition to our machine tool line-up at MACH 2026 in April but, at this smaller and more targeted event focused on one-hit machining and multitasking machine tools, is sharing centre stage with ten DN Solutions’ multi-axis/multi-tasking lathes, machining centres and mill-turn machines.

The event will appeal to component manufacturers who, through their reliance on older, less capable machine tools and/or outdated and labour intensive practices and processes, are not able to reach, or realise, their true potential.

“Although one-hit machining is not a new concept, the continuous development of new machine tools capable of delivering single setup machining means that the one-hit machining landscape is constantly changing, evolving and improving.

“Our Innovation Day event provides a unique opportunity for visitors to check out the very latest DN Solutions and Heller multi-tasking machines, and to see how they can revolutionise their productivity and efficiencies by embracing one-hit machining.”

Tony Dale, Mills CNC’s Group CEO.

The Machines: Heller

Innovation Day will provide a unique opportunity for visitors to get up close and personal to a Heller HF 5500 FLEX simultaneous 5-axis horizontal mill-turn machine equipped with the new Siemens (SINUMERIK) ONE control with 24” multi-touch screen. This heavy-duty machine is designed and built for simultaneous 5-axis machining and complex mill-turn operations, and features a powerful HSK-T spindle (45kW/12,000rpm/400N-m), up to 90m/min rapid rates on its linear axes, a rotary tilting table with a 630mm x 630mm pallet and a highspeed 50-tool position ATC.

HF 5500

To enable visitors to see and appreciate the machine’s power, precision, speed and flexibility, the HF 5500 FLEX will be showcased, under power, machining a complex aerospace blisk from a Heat-Resistant Super Alloy and, to fully understand the machine’s capacity and capabilities, Heller technical representatives will deliver a series of short technical presentations to attendees at set times during the day.

The Machines: DN Solutions

SMX 3100

A proven multi-tasking mill-turn machine from DN Solutions’ proven SMX series. The Siemens-controlled 12” chuck/102mm bar capacity machine is equipped with a 30kW/3000rpm spindle, a +/- 120-degree B-axis milling spindle (12,000rpm) and a generous-sized ATC.

DVF 4000

This compact simultaneous 5-axis machining centre equipped with the latest Siemens (SINUMERIK) One control and featuring a powerful 18.5kW/15,000rpm directly-coupled spindle and a 400mm diameter rotary tilting table is ideal for the fast, one-hit processing of small, high-precision complex parts.

NHP 5000 (with 12-pallet LPS)

This high-performance Siemens-controlled horizontal machining centre will be integrated with a compact, modular and highly-flexible Linear Pallet System (LPS) to showcase its true productivity potential.

DVF 4000 with AWC

This simultaneous 5-axis machining centre will be integrated with a DN Solutions’ (8-pallet) automatic workpiece pallet changer (AWC) to showcase how an investment in automation can further improve the machine’s output and achieve continuous production. The machine is equipped with the advanced CUFOS/Fanuc control.

DNX 2100S

This recently-launched, Fanuc-controlled, multi-tasking mill-turn machines features dual 8” chucks, two opposing spindles (both 5,000rpm), a 12,000rpm B-axis milling head, and 60-tool ATC.

Puma TT 2100SYY

This 10” chuck/81mm bar capacity twin-spindle/twin-turret turning centre with dual Y-axis capabilities (upper and lower turret) is a real productivity powerhouse and is an unrivalled solutions for fast small parts processing.

Puma V8300M

This heavy-duty 18” chuck vertical turning lathe is equipped with a powerful, high-torque spindle (45kW/1800rpm/4444N-m), driven tooling capabilities (5000rpm), a 12-station turret and the Fanuc iPlus control.

DNM 6700

One of the larger models in our best-selling range of vertical machining centres, the DNM 6700, with its powerful, directly-coupled spindle technology (18.5kW/15,000rpm), roller guideways and large worktable (1500mm x 670mm) with a 1300kg maximum table load is ideal for machining larger workpieces or multiple smaller parts in a single set-up. The machine being showcased features the Heidenhain iTNC 640 control.

DNM 4500 (4th-Generation)

This highly-popular 3-axis (Fanuc-controlled) vertical machining centre is one of the smallest in the legendary DNM range and features an 18.5kW/12,000rpm spindle, a 30-tool ATC and a 1000mm x 450mm worktable with a 600kg table load.

Other highlights

No Mills Open House type event would be complete without our SYNERGi automation systems being involved and making an appearance.

At the Innovation Day event we will be showcasing our latest compact and small footprint T-series to customers. Designed for LOW-VOLUME/HIGH-MIX production, T-series systems comprise an industrial 6-axis robot, a sophisticated servo-driven Lift System with vertically stacked, two-way, bi-directional drawers for high-density storage of workpieces and finished parts, individual trays (that go inside each drawer) with configurable grid plates, a convenient waist-high loading/unloading station and ultra-sensitive and responsive safety systems and guarding.

T-series systems are all driven by Mills’ proprietary SYNERGi software (V6) that orchestrates, manages and controls all cell operations and functions.
